July Newsletter

Hundreds eager to volunteer!

The number of people signed up to volunteer for the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup has reached 600 – already twice the number of volunteers used at the 2007 Netball World Championships.

Around 500 are still required for the tournament to be held in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch from October 28 to November 16.

FIFA is the most recognised sporting organisation in the world and is known as a world leader in event management so volunteers will gain invaluable skills working on the tournament. Some of the benefits include professional development, making new friends, exclusive invites and the opportunity to rub shoulders with sporting stars.

Volunteer evening 329A number positions were filled last month at volunteer evenings held to coincide with National Volunteer Awareness Week (see photo). However many roles are still available such as administrators, stewards, drivers, flag bearers, IT workers, media liaisons and competition assistants.

To find out more on becoming a volunteer please click here or phone 0800 FIFA U17 (0800 3432 17).

Volunteers who have already registered their interest, will be contacted within the next couple of weeks by the relevant regional management team known as 'VOC' (Venue Organising Committees).

FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Volunteer E-Noticeboard

With volunteers registering everyday and the tournament date only 12 weeks away, there is a lot of volunteer specific information and news that needs to be communicated to our increasing volunteer network. So, from next week we will start a monthly ‘Volunteer E-Noticeboard’ and this will be sent only to those that have registered as volunteers. As the countdown to kick off gets closer, the Volunteer E- Noticeboard will be an essential communication tool for us to keep our volunteers informed on things such as; who’s who (your Volunteer Coordinator in each region) training days and information relevant to your region.

Thanks for your support and interest in the volunteer section of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2008!
