Urban Streetball for Auckland Auckland City Council, North Shore City Council and Tourism Auckland are working together closely to deliver a memorable FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup that showcases Auckland’s ability to host major international events. To help promote the tournament, massive Streetball Competitions will be held in the city prior to kick-off. Urban Streetball tournaments involve two players on each side and a very small playing area - 6m by 12m, forcing players to use skill and speed to score goals. Halves are just two minutes long with a 30-second half-time break. In the 2 v 2 freestyle form of the game, a goal is worth two points and if you juggle the ball five times it’s worth a point. It’s all on to determine who will have bragging rights and everyone is welcome to participate and join in the fun! The tournaments will be hosted by former New Zealand International Noah Hickey and Radiosport personality Miles Davis. Plus hot New Zealand music acts will perform! All will be revealed in the coming weeks so keep your ears to the ground. On the 24th of October from 5pm, Hurstmere Road in Takapuna will spring to life with the ‘North Shore City Street Ball’. A total of 64 teams will compete to establish exactly who does ‘rule the street’. Teams can register online by emailing streetball@northshorecity.govt.nz. On the 25th of October from 12pm, Urban Streetball will also be eld at Nuffield Street, Newmarket - one of the city's hottest shopping districts. Watch out for more details closer to the time and make sure you get involved! |
