ham_comp_logo_120Hamilton plans 1 v 1 tournament

With another successful Repco Rally of New Zealand concluded, Hamilton has now turned its sights on welcoming the world's biggest game.

With the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup drawing ever closer, Hamilton looks to promote this event by bringing the game to the city's CBD. A one-a-side streetball tournament will be played in Hamilton’s Civic Plaza on 18th October which aims expose the general public to the type of action and excitement they could experience at Waikato Stadium from 30 October to 9 November.

The one-a-side tournament is a shortened game lasting two minutes, with each goal worth two points. The size of playing field is 6m by 12m with surrounding barriers, forcing the players to use skill and speed to score goals. The tournament will see players displaying ball control, individual creativity and soccer instincts as they compete one-on-one with each other.

Streetball will be open to U-8, U-12, U-15 and U-17 mixed age groups with prizes being awarded to winners of each division. Spectators and players will also be encouraged to participate in the many other activities, such as juggling competitions against future football stars. Entry forms for the one-a-side tournament will be distributed to schools and clubs from 15 September.

Entries for the tournament will close 14 October. For additional information on the tournament please email andreat@fifau17.co.nz.
