August Newsletter

Volunteer numbers reach 900

Thanks to everyone who has signed up to volunteer so far! Already many volunteers have been put to work in preparation for the tournament. You may have met some of our young volunteers enthusiastically helping to promote the tournament at the many soggy football fields around the country!

The four regions are now in the process of matching volunteer applications to the many various jobs and roles. In the meantime, the recruitment focus is now on finding people with particular skills and experience in areas such as; drivers, ticketing, media and general administration support.  For more information on recruitment or to discuss opportunities please click here or phone: 0800 FIFA17 or 09 414 0169.

If you've already registered you should have received the Volunteer E-Noticeboard last month. In case you missed it or if anyone wants to know more, please read the July issue below.

Thursday 24 July

Hello from the volunteer management team of the FIFA U-17Women's World Cup!

This is our first Volunteer E-Noticeboard and in it you'll find information on:

  • Recruitment
  • Volunteer Selection
  • Communication
  • Regional Volunteer Coordinators

Firstly, I'd like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ayliss Ripley and I'm the National Workforce Manager for the tournament. I am responsible for the national recruitment of up to 1200 volunteers in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Christchurch and will oversee the communication, training and general welfare of our volunteer workforce.

Prior to my arrival, Brendon Bourke managed the role and I would like to thank him for all his hard work. Brendon is now working full time in his role as National Logistics Manager. It's been a great four weeks since I joined the team based at North Harbour Stadium, Auckland, and I'm looking forward to keeping in touch with our now extensive volunteer network.

If you have received this email then we have received your application to be a volunteer.

Firstly, thank you for volunteering your time to work with us! The Volunteer E-Noticeboard will be our group communication tool tailored specifically for volunteers. This first issue is relevant to everyone who has applied to be a volunteer and eventually, future issues will become more relevant to selected volunteers who have completed the recruitment process. The E-Noticeboard will include information such as; general updates, training dates, contact persons and region specific information. Please read the content carefully and keep it for future reference.

Recruitment

Volunteer recruitment is now well underway with 90 percent of the total number required already registered. Thank you to those who attended the recent volunteer information evenings held during Volunteer Awareness Week. As a result, we received new interest from nearly 400 volunteers over the four regions.

Now, we are particularly looking for volunteers who are skilled in ticketing, media, transport and volunteers living in Wellington and Christchurch.

Volunteer Selection

Each regional VOC (Venue Organising Committee) is in the process of sorting through your applications and role allocation. When this is complete, successful volunteers will receive a Letter of Offer, a Job Description and a Volunteer Service Agreement. Within the agreement you will be required to sign an Application for Privacy Information from the Ministry of Justice. This is a security requirement for a world class event of this nature and assists us with ensuring the tournament is safe for everyone involved, especially our minors, visiting teams and our volunteer workforce. This is not required for volunteers under 16years.

If you haven't already, you will hear from your regional VOC within the next two weeks.

Youth Programme (Ball Kids and Flag Bearers)
This has been a very popular recruitment area and I'm pleased to see so many young people keen to get involved. Unfortunately, there will not be a position for everyone and each VOC will activate a trial and selection process which you will be advised of.

Communication

For those volunteers whose selection is successful, ongoing communication will be essential and email will be our preferred communication tool. 99% of our volunteers have indicated that they have access to email/internet, however, please advise us if your email/internet is not active for any reason. For volunteer children under 14 years, we would prefer a parent's email address is used. For anyone without access to email, the Volunteer E-Noticeboard and other communication will be sent by NZ Post.

Upcoming Volunteer E-Noticeboard dates:

  • Thursday 21 August
  • Thursday 25 September
  • Thursday 23 October
Regional Volunteer Coordinators

I'm please to introduce you to the Volunteer Coordinator in your region. If you have any volunteer queries specific to your region, please contact your coordinator directly.
